If you have teenage children you have probably seen text messaging or SMS, but may not understand the first thing about it, or whether it is of interest to you. It might seem like a secret code, which of course it is. And you're probably getting free text messages with your mobile 'phone contract which you're not even using, so AnyoneForTee has the answer!
How many times have you seen a friend on another fairway, and were dying to tell him all about your round, but you know it's not good etiquette to shout. Or perhaps you've just holed in one, and you want the barman to set up the drinks for your triumphal return to the Clubhouse. Whatever the situation, we all hate people who talk on their mobiles on the golf course, so why not use text instead?
The key to texting is brevity, because text messages are limited to 160 characters, including spaces. Messages can contain any combination of letters, numbers or symbols (such as punctuation marks or other signs present on your mobile), to form words and phrases. You can also form "emoticons", such as the ubiquitous 'smiley' :-), although these days texters' imaginations go way beyond that. The language is a mixture of abbreviations, phonetics, and puns (which is why we like it!), all with a large dose of creativity on the part of the texter, and much inspired guesswork for the textee.
So get texting with us. We have put together a small lexicon which we think will be of use to the ordinary golfer, but we would welcome any further contributions from you by e-mail to share with your fellow golfers. It is divided into four parts for ease of consultation. Just click on the links below to go to each page.

Important notice: AnyoneForTee strongly urges you not to use your mobile phone for talk on the golf course, as it is annoying and distracting to others. We recommend that you set your phone to 'silent' or 'vibrate' alert before beginning a round of golf, or turn it off, in consideration for your fellow golfers. But texting, silently, is OK.
Besides, someone will always leave a message if it's that urgent, and after all, what is more important - golf or business?
