Europe takes historic Ryder Cup win!
US in hysteric national witch-hunt!

The scoreline "Europe 18½ - USA 9½" is but a pale reflection of a match that may have changed the face of international golf forever.

For Europe, Bernhard Langer faced agonising choices over his two Captain's picks and a near mutiny over his choice of inflight menu on the journey out. But once the matches began, his ruthless determination even after the team took the first day's matches 6½ - 1½ was finally vindicated in Europe's victory by a record winning margin.

For the US, Hal Sutton could only lament as his "dream team" of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson failed twice on day one, with more focus on Phil's new clubs than his game. Hal's brief moment of hope was quickly dashed on day two, before the 7½ - 4½ disaster of the last day's singles. Defeat left Hal facing unprecendented levels of criticism, while the desperate PGA began to consider fielding the twelve players' wives clad only in swimwear for the 2006 matches.

Read our award-winning coverage of the most amazing golf match in history below.

U.S. 2006 Ryder Cup team to feature 12 players' wives?

Desperate US officials are dreaming up radical strategies to destabilise the Europeans at the 2006 match in Ireland. One idea would see US players' wives, including Elin Nordegren, Amy Mickelson and Sonya Toms (pictured) facing Europe dressed in bikinis. Read the full story here.

Lefty lost 3 - but he's laughing all the way to the bank!

Phil Mickelson may not have cut the mustard for the US team, but he's cut a good equipment deal for himself. For a reputed $7m. a year, he changed his clubs and ball - just two weeks before the Ryder Cup. He can't hit a fairway, but he's hit it rich! Listen to him sing for joy here.

Ryder Cup Day Three - Hal's boys lose by record margin!

Despite a promising start to the singles by the US, the Europeans slowly claw back the matches, until Monty seals victory on the 18th. When all twelve matches are finished, Europe wins by 18½-9½, a record defeat, and Cap'n Hal can only ponder on what ailed his team. Listen in here.

Ryder Cup Day Two - Hal's morning hopes are short-lived!

A good morning - including a rare win for Tiger Woods - saw the US take the fourballs 2½-1½, and Captain Hal Sutton breathed again. But in the afternoon it was back to Friday's European dominance, as they take an 11-5 lead into Sunday. Hal is whistling in the dark again - listen here.

Ryder Cup Day One - Langer blasts 'sloppy' Europeans!

They were expecting a jolly dinner full of praise for a good day's work, and at most a warning against complacency; what they got was an ear-bashing from Captain Langer for 'gifting' 1½ points to the Americans. Read our undercover report from the European team dinner here.

Ryder Cup Day One - Hal has to think the unthinkable!

After watching his 'dream team' of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson get beaten twice and seeing the Europeans dominate both the foursomes and fourballs to lead 6½-1½, US Captain Hal Sutton could not sleep. Hear what he sang to himself as he lay awake in the dark, here.

2004 Ryder Cup - Are Europe's hopes on the shrink?

There will be some long faces in Munich on Sunday evening when Berhard Langer announces his two Captain's picks. No surprise that one of them is Colin Montgomerie, but the final spot on the team will go not to a golfer, but a sports psychologist. All the details here.
