Kevin 'The Pup' Stadler waddles into Unknown Open lead, as cut reduces field from 50 to 13

NEW YORK.  Kevin Stadler (left), son of former Masters Champion Craig "The Walrus" Stadler, has heaved himself into the lead after round 2 of the Unknown US Open (now being called in some quarters the 'Who U?' S Open).

He holds a one shot lead over Swede Daniel Chopra and American David Roesch, on a day which saw three-quarters of the unknown hopefuls obliged to pack their bags for home.

AnyoneForTee's "Famous Five", heavily backed by your co-publishers, fared badly, with only the well-known spelling mistake Kristopher Cox remaining in the running in a very creditable tie for 23rd place on two over par. With 75% of our post-tax profits riding on him at 100,000 to 1, your publishers are confident of being able to retire to a beach come Sunday evening.

Last place in the field went to David Carr, a model of consistency with two 83s to his credit for a 26 over par total of 166, only one shot worse than former world nº 1 David Duval (who is not playing in the Unknown Open, for obvious reasons). Carr is being offered honorary membership of the Duffers Golf Club in recognition of his efforts at Shinnecock Hills.

Among the rest of unfamous fifty, Brian Gay missed the cut after his promising start, following his opening 69 with a 79; friends said however that there was no truth to rumours he had been feeling a little queer overnight, leaving his concentration not all it should have been. AFT's 77,000 to 1 shot Joey Maxon maxed-out, with an 82 to follow his opening 78 for a 20 over par total. Eric Axley got axed. Jimmy Green missed too many greens, while Johnson Wagner had the Ride of the Valkyries round Shinnecock Hills with a pair of 77s. David Faught bravely, but lost, and Omar Uresti is now uresting for the remainder of the weekend.
