Round Three of the Unknown Open -
Hot Toddy has a wee lead!

Harrington (Hamilton! - Ed) takes the lead going into last round as Skip trips up

TROON.  Tab Hunter (Todd Hamilton - Ed) shot a magnificent 67 to take the third round lead on 8 under par in both the Unknown and the main Open Championships on Saturday over a blustery and occasionally very wet Royal Troon.

Hambledon (Hamilton - Ed) held his nerve as more famous names challenged him, including his playing partner, 2002 Open Champion, Ernie Els (pictured with him right). While mishaps seem to plague his nearest rivals, Ted (Todd - Ed) managed to stay out of trouble.

Scott Kimball (Skip Kendall - Ed) fell away from the first hole in the last match out and relinquished the early lead to his playing partner, Frenchman Thomas Levet, although he held on bravely to finish within striking distance of the lead alongside Colin Montgomerie and Mike Weir at 3 under par.

Noteworthy is the excellent performance of our three unknown Japanese players, Komfyjama (Kamiyama - Ed) with a level par 71, Hiraruma (Hiratsuka - Ed) with a one under 70 and Keiichiro Firabirdi (Fukabori! - Ed), pictured left, also with a 70. All three lie at one over par in joint 23rd place in the main event, but more importantly tied 4th in the Unknown Open.

Hamitoru - lots of ballsWe also owe our thanks to Takabogi Komfyjama (Takashi Kamiyama - Ed) for providing us with a little more information about our championship leader, pictured right. Harrington (Hamilton - Ed) has played for more than ten years on the Japanese circuit, while trying to earn a card to play full-time on the USPGA Tour, and had numerous victories, to the point where his name is a household word in Japan. Apparently 'Hamitoru', as he is known in Japan, is a great sushi delicacy, made from thinly sliced shark's testicles pickled in squid's ink. An acquired taste, Takabogi agreed, adding that it certainly takes balls to eat such a dish.
