R&A nervous as Thomas Levet takes joint first round lead, while Cévaër and Jacquelin post respectable scores
|
Following Anyone For Tee's exclusive revelations of a French plot to take the Claret Jug to France and keep it there for good, we are publishing a daily report on the progress of the four French players competing in this year's Open Championship and suspected of being involved in the plot.
Firstly, however, we have been asked by the Strathclyde Police and the R&A to publish 'mug shots' of the four, to facilitate identification by members of the public.
Pictured below are the men who are trying to steal the Open Championship and its world-famous trophy for France. If you should see them, DO NOT approach them or try to apprehend them yourself. They are armed with golf clubs and possibly dangerous. (Mr Levet may also be carrying a large blunt instrument in the form of a house on a round wooden plinth, bearing the inscription "Barclays Scottish Open 2004" - see picture at right.) Fetch a police officer or an official of the R&A at once.

They are easily recognised by the following distinguishing features:
- Three of the four have strange accents in their names
- All four have strange accents, and drop their 'h's
- They all use their hands a lot when they talk
- After a meal, they may smell of garlic
- In a restaurant, they will eat cheese BEFORE dessert
- They drink a lot of wine
- Do NOT, however, expect them to order frogs' legs; these are cunning and intelligent plotters, and they know frogs' legs are not on Scottish menus
In Round One of the Open Championship, the plotters' intentions were clearly stated. Thomas Levet is tied for the lead on 5 under par and very much the man in form, having won last week's Scottish Open, while Christian Cévaër and Raphaël Jacquelin are handily placed at 1 under and par respectively. "These three at least look likely to make the cut, but should Jean-François Remesy not be playing on the weekend it will only give him more time to prepare a clean getaway with the Claret Jug," said a clearly nervous official of the Royal & Ancient.
Their scores and standings are given below. Check back to Anyone For Tee's "Frogwatch" every day of the Open to follow their progress.
