What did Alliss say? 'It's very nippy out there'? You know how it is.  There are some days when even the keenest golfer would rather not be out on the course.

Even when you're well wrapped-up in sweaters and the rain-gear, you've still got cold, numb hands...

..even with the help of a caddy, a big brolly and lots of towels, it's pretty well impossible to keep your grips and your glove dry...

..the rain is driving into your face, stinging your eyes and cheeks.  And even if you could see where you're going, you couldn't hit the ball with all those clothes on...

..especially with the wind blowing you off balance all the time, turning the umbrella inside out, and making it an exhausting slog just to get to the next shot.

So we confess.  Much as we love it, golf is quite hard enough, without all the discomfort and the wet, clinging rough as well.  Ask Tiger!

Then why not stay indoors and a try a few of our good old-fashioned games?
It's no laughing matter...
What pin? I can't see the green!
Bloody cold, wet, windy... the full Monty!
81! Just a very rough day at the office.

You probably played some of these as a child - if you were born before the Gameboy and the Playstation, that is - so choose one of the following by simply clicking on the name.

  • Golfer's Hangman - Find the hidden golf words by choosing letters.  But hurry!  Five mistakes, and the golfer swings, from the scaffold...
  • Golf Solitaire - See if you can beat par with the cards.  There are clubs here too, but they're easier to play!
  • Tee Peg Solitaire - Remove each peg by jumping over a neighbour until just one is left.  Try and leave it in the middle of the green...
  • Battleships - Try to find and sink the computer's ships before he gets yours...
  • Squares - Complete the squares to score points. But you have to stop the computer doing it too...
  • Tic Tac Toe - Or maybe you call it 'Noughts and Crosses'.  As easy as a two foot putt...

We'll be adding more games in the months to come, so watch this space.  And have fun until the sun shines!

It's a pleasure to play badly in the Duffer's favourite shoe. Sand, water and rough-proof, even after 150 shots!

The ball even Duffers can't cut!
