You may think you've never seen a kiwi in the flesh...

...but we'll bet you have. Of course you have all heard of a slice, a hook and a shank, but do you know what a "kiwi" is in golf? It's one of those horrible topped or fluffed shots, weak and humiliating, which goes nowhere. So why is that a kiwi? Because it's short and never airborne.

Anyone For Tee has had the great pleasure of receiving many thousands of visitors from New Zealand in the last few days. This is all thanks to a member of the Duffers Golf Club (LOFT Masters - Auckland Chapter*) who recommended the site to the newsletter of her Internet service provider Xtra. Our most grateful thanks to her and to all her fellow Kiwis - you are most welcome here, and we hope you have enjoyed yourselves and will keep coming back! You will no doubt have noticed that we have made a little adjustment to the top of this page to say thank you and make you feel at home.

12 over par - moa or less...On the subject of flightless birds, you may also like to know that the sadly extinct giant moa was a relative of the kiwi, and survives today only in Anyone For Tee's revolutionary scoring system for Duffers. A moa is a score of 12 over par on one hole and yes, it does happen, even to the pros (click here for the story)! You can also find out more about our scoring system by clicking here.

For our readers in Aotearoa, may we point out that you are in good company at Anyone For Tee - well, 50% good anyway. Half the entire AFT staff is Kiwi born and bred - ie. Martin Moodie.

In fact, his wife thinks his body clock is still on Kiwi time, because he tends to work throughout the European night, and emerge in the early morning looking very sheepish (picture right). It just goes to prove that you can take the man out of New Zealand, but you can't take New Zealand out of the man...

* We leave you to guess what 'LOFT' means - if you're really stuck, email us and we'll be glad to provide the answer!

And, if you would like to join the Duffers Golf Club and consider starting your own Chapter, you'll find all the necessary information here.
